Unique Venue Feature
For those interested in learning about Wilmington's past, there are several historic sites to visit within the city including the USS North Carolina Battleship, which fought in World War II. There are several battlefields, parks and other historic sites within a short driving distance of UNCW and Wilmington. In 2020, Wilmington, NC was named the first World War II heritage city in the United States.
Hollywood East:
Several popular movies and television shows have been filmed in Wilmington, including Dawson's Creek, One Tree Hill, Safe Haven, The Choice, and A Walk to Remember. Many film locations are in and around the city to go visit. Wilmington is still an active film location.
Venus FlyTraps:
Venus flytraps, carnivorus plants, are native to the Carolinas. The Stanley Rehder Carnivorous Plant Garden is the only public carnivorous plant garden in the world to see native flytraps, pitcher plants and sundews. The Bluethenthal Wildlife Preserve located on UNCW's campus, is a great spot for flytraps as well.
Coastal Adventures:
From enjoying a sunset dinner to paddleboarding on the Intracoastal to fishing on one of the piers to fireworks on the beach, there is an adventure to be found on the coast. Within a short drive from three beaches-Wrightsville Beach, Carolina Beach, and Kure Beach-there is something for everyone!
